Cast: Anil Kapoor. Anurag Kashyap, Yogita Bihani
Director: Vikramaditya Motwane
Streaming on: Netflix
Language: Hindi

Story: After an argument with Anil Kapoor in a talk show, Anurag Kashyap feels offended and decides to kidnap Anil’s daughter Sonam Kapoor and force Anil to act in his film.

Performances: The major plus point for this film is that it never feels like anybody is acting. It feels like everyone was captured using a secret camera. Everyone are at their natural best. Anil Kapoor is in absolutely terrific form and he proves once again that he can still compete with the best performers in the country. Anurag Kashyap too is excellent but he is completely dominated by Anil Kapoor’s crazy act. The others just come and go but are natural. Sonam Kapoor, Boney Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor appear in cameos.

Technicalities: This film is technically top notch. Camerawork is brilliant with some crazy handheld camera shots throughout the film. Music is used properly and effectively whenever required. Editing is neat. The amount of realism in the film throughout is just stunning. The locations add to the excitement and realistic nature of the film.

First of all, director Vikramaditya Motwane deserves applause for coming up with something exciting like this and executing it well. He is also one of the screenplay writers for the film. Anurag Kashyap’s dialogues make the film as real as possible and it mostly feels like a real-life conversation rather than a dialogue exchange in a film. Kudos to Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap for agreeing to this film, where they have to play their own selves and throw cuss words and personal abuses at each other. The writing, performances and the realistic taking keep the film interesting, unpredictable and engaging throughout. The tempo in the second half dips a bit for a while. Besides that, there are hardly any dull moments in the film. This film has broken several rules and is a pathbreaking attempt and will inspire youngsters to come up with many such fresh ideas soon.

On a whole: AK vs AK is an excellent attempt, an engaging watch and offers fresh filmmaking. Go for it !
