Story: The story follows the lives of Radha aka Dolly (Konkona Sen Sharma) and her cousin sister Kajal aka Kitty (Bhumi Pednekar) as they try to understand their inner desires and the difference between living and surviving.

Performances: Both Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar have performed very well and breathe life into their respective roles. Among the supporting actors, Kubra Sait, Amol Parashar, Aamir Bashir and Vikrant Massey make their presence felt.

Technicalities: Camerawork is good. Music gels well with the flow of the film and does not act as a disturbance. Editing is decent but the pace of the movie in general is slow.

Analysis: The story of the film is about two sisters and how they dealt with their respective problems and in the process how they understood their inner desires and the true meaning of living life. The movie deals with several themes like sexuality, survival, solitude, male domination and moral values and these themes have all been dealt effectively to an extent. What lets the film down is it’s pace. The movie is slow paced throughout but the pace dips even further in the latter part of the film. This starts testing our patience and does not allow us to connect with the proceedings in a full fledged manner. The characters have been neatly established and the performances keep us invested to a major extent. There are some bold moments in the film which definitely deserve a mention. Director Alankrita Srivastava deserves appreciation for the good subject she has chosen and for her clarity in understanding complex characters and emotions. However, a good thought is not sufficient for a good film. An engaging screenplay is also required. In that aspect, the film falters a bit.

On a whole: Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare is a good, bold attempt but not a completely satisfying watch.
