The OTT content creators have full freedom to release the uncensored content digitally but the recent incidents proved that some of them are misusing the freedom given to them. Cases were lodged against the two web series for distorting the image of the Indian army. ALT Balaji’s Code M and Zee5’s XXX Uncensored are into this controversy.
This issue went to the notice of the Ministry of Defence and they wrote a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification stating that it would be better for film/documentary makers to get a No Objection Certificate(NOC) from MOD before releasing their content and suggested the filmmakers make sure that no scenes are to be shot hurting the feelings of Armed forces.
The Ministry of Defence also communicated with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting regarding this. It seems like MOD has taken this issue very seriously and working on it.
So, the movie/web series makers ought to obtain NOC from the MOD if they have any content related to the armed forces. The official orders about the same will be passed soon. However, this incident is not a good sign and let’s hope the creators will never repeat such mistakes.
